How to Choose a Pipe Repair Clamp

Do not order by nominal DN alone

The most important number for a repair clamp is the exact outside diameter of the pipe. Two pipes with the same nominal DN can have different outside diameters depending on material, standard and age.

1. Measure the outside diameter

Measure the actual pipe outside diameter at the repair location. If the pipe is damaged or heavily corroded, take several measurements around the circumference where practical.

2. Identify the pipe material

Steel, cast iron and plastic pipes behave differently under clamping. Material information helps determine whether the clamp range and sealing concept are appropriate.

3. Describe the damage

A pinhole, longitudinal crack, circumferential break and damaged joint are not the same repair problem. Record the length and location of the damaged area and take clear photos.

4. Confirm operating pressure

The clamp must be suitable for the pressure conditions of the network. Include normal operating pressure and any known pressure peaks or special conditions.

5. Check installation space

Bolts and clamp segments need room for assembly. Measure nearby fittings, walls, supports and other obstructions before ordering.
